Restaurant Review: Hakkasan

Where to start? When you’ve been eating stodgy dining hall food for 3 weeks straight any restaurant that includes waiter service and food that isn’t undercooked is like heaven incarnated. But this was the not the only reason that I loved Hakkasan. I mean, of course just being in the presence of a Michelin star restaurant gets your taste buds going but as someone who isn’t really a fan of Chinese cuisine I was a little bit nervous. We went on a sunday night, so although we made a reservation it really wasn’t necessary, and the occasion was my best friend’s 19th birthday. Whilst trying not to sound too much like a yelp review, the service was great! Our waiter knew the menu inside out and recommended some really great dishes, although it was intimidating at times because there would be five different waiters standing around in black watching us eat (probably just because it was so quiet).

Overall, the food was great, the service was great, and the location was great. It might be located next to the craziness of Times Square but you enter through a very discreet door next to the W hotel that makes you instantly forget the noise and tackiness that you left outside.

I can’t say I’ve been fully converted to loving Chinese food, but Hakkasan definitely did a good job of convincing me.
