Review: Soho's Secret Tea Room

09:58

This is by far one of London’s best kept secrets. Situated above a pub in soho, you have to go through the bar and the kitchen before you reach the stairs that lead you up to this treasure. But before you even get there, you have to be cleared by the pub staff who check your name against a reservation. It’s all very hush hush. The merry makers of the pub have no idea what is upstairs. Unfortunately for the Tea Room, and it really is unfortunate, when we arrived there it wasn’t busy at all. But I’ve heard it can sometimes be heaving.

The Tea Room is a girly girls heaven, covered in pink and polka dots and vintage ornaments. It felt like you’d stepped back into the '40s wearing rose-tinted glasses (literally). Out of the window you could set the London bustle below, making it a perfect people watching spot.

The food wasn’t that great, the cakes were a bit dry and there wasn’t a great selection. But the location and decor certainly made up for that! I would definitely recommend it to anyone, just don’t go there expecting a Ritz calibre afternoon tea.
